Report
Mission
To promote, prevent or address priority health
needs in Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson
Counties.
Vision
We will be a health district that is informed and
educated about prevention and is able through professional expertise
and our communities' wisdom and participation to enjoy long,
healthy, and happy lives. Whether SEDHD is proposing solutions based
on research, helping to set public health standards, or working with
local, state, or national agencies to improve and protect the health
in our communities, our mission is to expand the functions of public
health to everyone in our district.
What is Public
Health
Public health works to protect the health and well-being of all
people, young and old, rich and poor. Because of public health, you
can safely drink the water, breathe the air and eat the food. Public
health has worked to eliminate disease and immunize against the
previously life threatening infectious diseases. Public health works
for injury prevention through safer work-places, motor vehicle
safety, child safety seat programs and reduction of drug and alcohol
abuse.
Since 1900, the average life span of U.S.
citizens has lengthened by 30 years; 25 years of the gain are
directly attributable to advances in Public Health. *CDC (Center for
Disease Control and Prevention)
