Cold vs Flu

WHAT
IS A COLD? Colds are minor infections of the nose and
throat caused by hundreds of different viruses, Colds are
highly contagious and are spread by droplets.
SYMPTOMS: * Fever at
or above 100 degrees: Uncommon in adults and older
children. * Headache:
Usual * Muscle aches:
Mild * Tiredness and
exhaustion: Mild * Runny nose:
Usual * Cough:
Usual * Chest discomfort:
Uncommon * Vomiting:
Uncommon WHAT IS THE FLU? The Flu is an infection of the
respiratory system caused by the influenza virus.
SYMPTOMS: * Fever at
or above 100 degrees that can last 3-4
days. * Headache: Usual, sudden
onset can be severe. * Muscle
aches: Usual * Tiredness:
Sudden onset, can be severe and may last 2
weeks * Runny Nose and Cough : Usual
may be severe * Vomiting, Diarrhea:
Uncommon in adults, more likely in very young
children. * Chest Pain:
Uncommon WHEN TO SEE THE DOCTOR See your doctor for
evaluation if any of the following
occurs: * Severe
vomiting or diarrhea lasting 8 hours or any vomiting or
diarrhea not improved after 24
hrs. * Fever over 102 degrees
orally. * Earache * Shaking
Chills * Difficulty
breathing * Skin
rash * Unusual tiredness or
confusion * Uncontrollable cough or
"bark" STOP THE SPREAD OF GERMS THAT MAKE YOU AND OTHERS SICK
Cover your mouth and nose with tissue when coughing or
sneezing. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze into your sleeve.
Germs are often spread when a person touches something that
has germs on it and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth.
Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer if soap and water
are unavailable. Avoid close contact with people who are
sick.
STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK!
